How To Disable Windows Messenger in Windows XP, Win2K and NT
*Note* Windows Messenger can not be removed in 98 & ME.
*NOTES for the Novas* There is a big difference between Windows Messenger & Microsoft Messenger (msmsgs). Windows Messenger is a utility that is built into windows its self. It is a convenient way for administrators to notify everyone in the office of upcoming network events, Such as the Server will be taken offline for an emergency reboot. If you are not in an office environment, or if you are in a small office, there is no need to have this service active. By disabling this service you further enhance your computers security. And help protect your self from programs that will exploit this utility to barrage you with Windows Messenger Pop-Ups.

How To Remove MS Messenger (msmsgs) in XP.
Use this command at your own risk !
You should be logged in as Administrator so you will be able to remove it from all profiles.
copy the line listed bellow.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Now go to start/run and paste it, hit enter and that's it. It will run so fast that you may think it did not work, but it did. You just did not go through a clunky wizard to remove it.
